Anubias Barteri var. Glabra is a naturally occurring variety of the well-known Anubias barteri. Native to rivers and shaded streams of West Africa, it is characterized by its long, slender, lance-shaped leaves which contrast beautifully with rounder or broader aquarium plants.
This plant is extremely resilient and grows slowly under aquarium conditions. Its rhizome must remain above the substrate to avoid rot; the plant attaches naturally to wood, stones, or decorations. Because of its tough leaves, it withstands the presence of herbivorous fish better than most soft-leaf plants.
Care Requirements:
Lighting: Low to medium (does best in shaded aquariums)
Temperature: 22–28 °C
pH: 6.0–7.5
CO₂: Optional but beneficial
Propagation: Rhizome cutting
Glabra’s tall, flowing leaves make it an excellent background or midground plant. It is especially useful for providing vertical accents in aquascapes while requiring minimal attention.
